Global Academy is a University Technical College specialising in media and entertainment, sponsored by Global — the company behind Capital, Heart, LBC, Classic FM, Radio X and Gold — and the University of the Arts London. Based at the Old Vinyl Factory in Hayes, we were rated Outstanding by Ofsted in March 2025.
We are looking for a dedicated, patient and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a student with a physical disability. Working closely with teaching staff, therapists and family, you will help the student access the curriculum and the full life of the academy as independently as possible.
This is a hands-on role. It includes mobility and manual handling support, supervised walking sessions and physiotherapy programmes, and support with personal care and toileting, all carried out with dignity and respect for the student's privacy and growing independence. You will also provide academic support — scribing and reading, including in exams, adapting materials, and supporting access to specialist equipment and software in practical subjects such as music production and media. Alongside this, you will support emotional wellbeing, confidence and self-advocacy, and actively encourage friendships and social inclusion.
You will bring experience of working with young people with physical disabilities, or a genuine willingness to learn, together with a calm and consistent approach, excellent communication skills, good organisation and confidence with laptops and assistive technology. Experience of music production, media or creative subjects would be a bonus, as would prior manual handling training or experience of liaising with allied health professionals. Full training is provided, including manual handling, safe transfer techniques, evacuation chair training and safeguarding.
Everything we do is shaped by our values: Think Big, Keep it Simple, Own it, Better Together. If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
