School Cleaning and Lettings AssistantWork pattern: 25 hours per week, Term Time Only + 2 weeks additional per year (40 weeks)

Work hours: 4.00pm - 9.00pm or 4.30pm - 9.30pm

Main job purpose:
- To undertake general cleaning duties to provide a clean, hygienic and safe environment for teaching and other school activities, such as out of hours lettings.
- To display a high level of responsibility, reliability, organisational and communication skills.
- To facilitate lettings during evenings, weekends and school-holiday periods. A flexible approach to working hours is therefore essential.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- To carry out cleaning tasks set out in the school's cleaning schedule.
- To use all cleaning materials and equipment in a safe and proper manner and in accordance with any instructions and specifications provided.
- To report the breakdown of any cleaning equipment or any perceived hazards in the workplace to the Headteacher (or other nominated supervisor).
- To observe health and safety and security requirements.
- To complete any appropriate records or documentation required by the Headteacher.
- To maintain good working relationships with other school staff and to co-operate with reasonable changes to daily work routines to assist the smooth operation of the school.
- To ensure that work undertaken complies with stated requirements and undertake appropriate training, as required.
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the school’s safeguarding and child protection policy.
- Such other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be required by the Headteacher (or other nominated supervisor)
- To retain keys for the facility and maintain the security of the premises and all equipment during lettings.
- Opening the premises prior to scheduled bookings and securing the site at the end of the sessions.
- Ensuring areas relevant to the letting are set up prior to the start of the session as requested and cleared away afterwards, reporting any issues or faults with equipment or facilities as required.
- To maintain cleanliness of lettings areas (e.g. changing rooms/toilets) ensuring all areas are left tidy and presentable at all times.
- Lifting, moving and handling equipment as required.
- Carrying out maintenance on equipment as necessary.
- Managing your own time effectively to support all bookings at the agreed times.
- Ensuring site access is given to authorised hirers only, challenging trespassers as necessary
- Providing First Aid equipment in the event of an accident.
- Delivering excellent customer service.
- Reporting on matters to the Site Manager by use of phone email and Spreadsheets.
Undertaking any other duties as may be reasonably requested within the competence of the post holder.
Knowledge & skillsNo formal qualifications or previous experience is required. Initial training in basic cleaning methods and the use of associated materials and equipment will be provided within the induction period and further training provided thereafter, as required.
Supervision & managementThe postholder will be expected to work with limited supervision to an established work pattern. Variations in work requirements or allocation will be determined by the Headteacher/Cleaner.
Key contacts & relationshipsRegular contact with the Headteacher, Caretaker and other cleaning staff regarding cleaning duties. General contact with other school staff.
Decision makingThe postholder is expected to report and record any problems involving cleaning materials equipment breakdown, health and safety matters or such to the Headteacher/Caretaker in line with existing policy and practice.
ResourcesCleaning equipment, e.g. buffing machine and chemicals will be used regularly to undertake duties. Training and appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided.
Working environmentDaily use of cleaning equipment, chemicals and machinery.
In addition to the cleaning tasks, some lifting is required. Routine cleaning may include the movement and handling of cleaning equipment, machinery and school furniture.
The cleaning duties will be undertaken indoors on school premises. On occasions, this may involve cleaning vomit or excrement from toilet areas.
