Assistant Headteacher – Inclusion 
Across St Martin’s and Laurel Lane 

Contract type: Part time (3 days per week initially), Permanent
Salary information: L1 - 5, £33,528 - £36,747 per annum (dependent upon experience)
Start date: September 2026

We are seeking an inspiring, flexible and committed Assistant Headteacher to lead and strengthen the quality of teaching and learning for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across St Martin’s and Laurel Lane.

This is a new and exciting opportunity for an exceptional practitioner who is passionate about inclusion and committed to improving outcomes for SEND pupils, working collaboratively across two school communities. In the first instance, this role will be part-time, three days per week, with flexibility to meet the needs of the schools.

The Role
The successful candidate will:

  • Lead and enhance the quality of teaching and learning for SEND pupils across both schools.
  • Work alongside an experienced SENDCo, contributing to the strategic development of SEND provision.
  • Support and develop staff to deliver high-quality adaptive teaching that meets the needs of all learners.
  • Work flexibly across both sites, responding to the individual contexts of each school.
  • Promote inclusive practice and ensure SEND pupils make strong progress.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external agencies, families and professionals.
  • Play a key role as part of the wider leadership team.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an excellent classroom teacher with a strong understanding of effective practice for SEND pupils.
  • Have a secure and up-to-date understanding of adaptive teaching and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative leadership style, with the ability to coach and support colleagues.
  • Be flexible, reflective and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Have experience of working with, or a strong understanding of, external agencies such as educational psychologists, therapists and specialist services.
  • Hold a SENCO qualification (desirable); however, willingness to undertake the SENCO qualification will also be considered.
