Sunshine House Specialist Setting is looking for a calm and competent practitioner to perform a part-time Senior Teaching Assistant role in an engaging class of pupils with complex needs and vision impairments.
Salary information: Scale 5, £8,397 - £8,859 per annum + Special schools allowance: £442;
Working hours: 14 hours per week (Thursdays and Fridays), 39 weeks of the year.
As Senior Teaching Assistant, you will support the class teacher to deliver the class planning, providing interim cover as required, all the while offering direct support to pupils to access their curriculum. You will lead on aspects of pupil wellbeing and parental engagement within the class. You will oversee the management and administration of medication within your class, under the direction of the school nursing team.
This is effectively a job-share opportunity with another highly experienced Senior Teaching Assistant who will provide cover to the class Monday-Wednesday, handing over to you on Thursday and Friday. Therefore, this is an ideal role for someone in a current Teaching Assistant or class-based support role, looking to take on greater responsibility and develop early leadership skills. There is potential for some mentorship as you develop your skills in the role.
Sunshine House is a most welcoming and highly specialised setting, catering specifically for blind and visually-impaired learners with additional complex needs, aged 3-14 years old. We have recently joined the Eden Academy as part of Grangewood and Moorcroft schools, having worked in close collaboration with this multi-academy trust for many years.
We are now seeking to add to our skilled class teams as we prepare, over the next few years, to create a new all-through special school for learners up to 19 years of age.
