Meadow High School is a successful Special School for children with Moderate and/or complex Learning Difficulties, many of our pupils have a diagnosis of ASD (currently 261 pupils on roll).

We are seeking a teacher who has a passion for teaching Science and is willing to embrace the school’s vision, to enable and empower our pupils with lifelong skills and enable as many as possible to enter the world of work and reach the highest levels of independence in adult life.

The school is growing and developing and we are looking for candidates who have a genuine interest in providing an interesting and challenging Science curriculum. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the Pathway 2 and 3 Science Curriculum for our more able pupils. In recent years, a few of our Pathway 3 pupils have attained GCSE Science. The successful applicant will also be a form tutor to a Pathway 2 / 3 tutor group and will be required to write and conduct Annual Reviews of their tutor group’s EHCPs as well as monitor pupils progress against the EHCP outcomes. All form tutors teach their form group in some core areas including PHSCE, Reading Intervention and either Maths or English.

Whilst experience in a special school is desirable it is not essential. Applicants from mainstream or SEN backgrounds are welcome but all will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of SEN and how this might impact on learning and curriculum delivery.

We are looking for applicants who hold Qualified Teacher Status, candidates with UPS will need to demonstrate how they could continue to offer a whole school impact.

To support the recruitment of an experienced candidate we are pleased to be able to offer a recruitment and retention payment award of 10% of the post holder's annual salary. This will be paid as 50% of the award amount in month 12 of employment and a further 50% of the award amount at month 24, subject to the post holder remaining in employment beyond these dates.

We wish to appoint candidates with:
  • The ability to be a team player.
  • Have a firm scientific background and knowledge of science teaching requirements to GCSE level.
  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual pupils needs.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • The ability to differentiate work for a range of learning needs and abilities.
  • A highly structured approach to teaching suited to the needs of pupils with ASD.
We can offer:
  • A supportive staff team.
  • A commitment to your continued professional development.
  • Small class groups.
  • The opportunity to work in an excellent school.
